Embossing vs Engraving

Embossing vs Engraving

Embossing is done by pressing heated brass letters (or any custom stamp) onto the leather that creates a permanent impression. The leather is compressed and burnt-in through this method resulting in a rich textured feel. The upside of embossing is that it's very durable and so it's best suited for the outside front part of the wallet. The downside is in it's limited text font and size. Our embossing is done in Times New Roman characters that are at a quarter inch in height, and available in both upper and lowercase.

Engraving is done through a CO2 Laser Engraver that burns a layer off the leather to leave a permanent impression. With embossing, no layers are burnt but rather they are compressed, so they are a much more durable option. However the upside to laser engraving is the wide variety of custom texts, fonts, and size. Even a handwritten note can be converted into a jpeg file and engraved onto the leather. But due to the fact that it burns a layer off to mark the leather, it is a much safer solution for engraving inside the wallet. This is why for personalizations we offer embossing on the outside / front of the wallet and engraving on the inside.
